Frequently Asked Questions
Hypnotherapist Stratford Upon Avon
Q: "What is Hypnosis?"
Hypnosis is a relaxed and focussed state of concentration which allows your unconscious mind to consider suggestions without your conscious mind first filtering them out. You will hear the therapists voice and feel very relaxed. It’s the same as day dreaming, or the experience when you’re on a long journey and suddenly realise you’ve covered a distance without being consciously aware. Your unconscious mind is in complete control and if it thinks it’s appropriate to bring you back to full awareness, it will. My clients have described their experiences of hypnosis in different ways; “It was a wonderful feeling”, “I imagined I was on a beautiful beach”, “I was surprised how easy it was”, “The more you experience it the better it gets”.
Q: "What is Hypnotherapy?"
There are many forms of psychological therapy but Hypnotherapy is distinctive in that it attempts to address the client’s unconscious mind and may utilise a wide range of techniques from story telling, metaphor to the use of direct suggestion for beneficial change. Analytical techniques may also be employed in order to uncover problems deemed to lie in a client’s past or therapy may concentrate more on the client’s current life and presenting problems. It is generally considered helpful if the client is personally motivated to change although a belief in the possibilty of beneficial change may be a sufficient starting point.
Q: "What is Life Coaching?"
A life coach works with a client to support personal growth, behaviour modification and goal-setting. Usually using techniques from fields of Psychology, NLP, Career Coaching and Management Training. Based on the premise that most people can achieve their goals if properly guided, a life coach will act as a mentor, assisting the client in the process of taking the life-improving actions necessary to take control of the future. Through a series of attainable steps, a life coach helps clients overcome fears and achieve balance in both their personal and professional life.
Q: "What is NLP?"
NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming was created in 1975 by Richard Bandler and John Grinder who took it upon themselves to look at why some therapists had extraordinary results with their clients and others did not. These two extra-ordinary men initially studied the work of popular therapists Milton Erickson, Fritz Perls and (family therapist) Virginia Satir, (they later studied others who contributed to this exciting field). They studied everything about these people; body postures, how they were feeling, use and structure of language, tone, pace and timbre of voice and many other areas. From this they developed models of the therapists behaviours which they could teach others to replicate to achieve similar results. From these original studies grew many other techniques for quickly and effectively changing thoughts, behaviours and beliefs. These techniques are what is commonly known as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
Q: "What is the BLAST Technique®? "
Neuroscience research shows that structures in the right side/hemisphere of the brain are overactive and acting as if there is an immediate threat in sufferers of PTSD and trauma. The BLAST Technique® utilises precise bi-lateral movements with a light pen (which helps the memory access the left side/hemisphere of the brain) and specific suggestions to the client which helps reprocess the traumatic event so they understand what happened and can remember, but it no longer has any physical or emotional response.
